TThe game was originally based on the “Battle Royale” film, and was first developed as a mod for other games, before being published and released as PUBG in December 2017. Originally it was available on Windows, through the video game distribution service Steam, and Xbox One via Xbox Game Preview; but was later also released on other platforms due to its popularity.
